How Storytelling Helps Kids Process Anxiety and Fear

If you've ever watched a child completely absorbed in a bedtime story - leaning forward at the scary part, relaxing when the hero finds a way through - you've already seen the seed of why storytelling works so well in children's hypnotherapy.  Kids don't process the world the way adults do.  Ask a child to "talk about their anxiety" and you'll often get silence, a shrug, or "I don't know."  But give that same child a story where a small character faces something big and scary, and something shifts.  They lean in, and they may ask questions.  Sometimes they tell you, without even realizing it, exactly what they're afraid of,  through the story, not despite it.
